Proud To Be An American

Yesterday the United States celebrated the 230th anniversary of our independence from Great Britain. But I also see the Fourth of July as being not just a celebration of independence, but also a reminder of our country's dependence on God. I don't believe for one minute that this country would be the great and powerful nation that we are today without, as the Declaration of Independence states, "a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence."

Knowing the godly heritage of this great country makes me proud to be an American. My concern, however, is that the less we as a nation declare our dependence on Almighty God, the less we will enjoy His blessings. My prayer for America is that we will never forget the One who made us the strong and mighty nation that we are.

We had a great day at church this past Sunday. Attendance was good, especially considering that it was somewhat of a holiday weekend, and the services were wonderful. The highlight of the day was seeing two young men baptized at the conclusion of our morning worship service. We praise God for changed lives!

Hope to see you at church tonight.

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.
-John Adams

Thought it would be appropriate for me to quote him

Jeff, you are the 21st century equivalent of John Adams. Very appropriate post.

My favorite John Adams:
"In politics the middle way is none at all."
Works for preaching, too!
