Yes, today is election day in the state of Alabama and it is also 6/6/06. As for today's date, I don't understand what the big deal is. Many people are saying that the world will end today because those numbers are the mark of the beast. If you're worried about planetary annihilation today, you've been watching way too much T.V. and not reading your Bible enough. I'm not saying that some ignorant people won't be prompted to do some stupid things today, but in the grand scheme of things it's just another day.
What is important about today's date is that it is election day in Alabama. Let me encourage you to get out and vote. Polls will be open until 7 p.m. Many people skip the primaries because they don't consider this the "big election." Those same people then complain in November when they don't like the choices they have in the "big election." If you don't vote in the primaries, you can't complain about who is on the ballot in November.
Another thing to remember about today's election is the state constitutional amendment that, if passed, will protect traditional marriage. If you go to the polls for no other reason, go to let your voice be heard concerning this amendment. Marriage has always been and should always be a union between a man and a woman, not a same sex union. I plan to vote "yes" on Amendment One.
